The gateway to the port is already worth seeing. After arriving at the port city, you’ll have many different ways to spend your time in or around Cádiz.
Cádiz Old town
The Old town of Cádiz is ideal for a relaxing walk. The historic lanes and gardens as well as many churches, chapels and monasteries are worth a visit on your Cádiz cruise excursion. Furthermore, there are many other interesting buildings such as the ancient Roman theatrium or the Tavira tower.
Of course, in the city center you will find a wide selection of restaurants, shops and cafes.
Beaches of Cádiz
You can find beautiful beaches like Playa de la Victoria and Playa de la Catheta right in the city area. The 8-km (5-mile) sandy beaches are ideal for a swimming trip in the Mediterranean.
Along the beach promenade you will find numerous bars, restaurants and cafes where you can relax over lunchtime and escape the sun.
Sevilla
The capital city of the region Andalusia and the province Seville is only about 100km (62 mi) north of Cádiz. This culturally rich city, once one of the richest cities in Europe, has many attractions including the Alcazar of Seville, the Medieval Royal Palace, the famous Giralda and the Torre del Oro or Plaza de Espana, one of the most famous squares in Spain.
Jerez de la Frontera
If you want to make your shore excursion outside of Cádiz but the journey to Seville is way too long for you, Jerez de la Frontera could be your choice. The home of the “Sherry” is only about 40km (25 miles) north of Cádiz.
Taste the wine, try the delicious tapas and enjoy the culture of Spain.
Gibraltar
Anyone who travels through southern Spain should spend a day in Gibraltar. If you want to visit the city on your Cádiz land excursion, you will need to drive about 100km (62 miles) by car or bus. Gibraltar does not belong to Spain, but to England. Therefore, most people speak English and use “pound” here. Euro is often also accepted.
The most famous and important attraction in Gibraltar is the limestone cliff Upper Rock, where hundreds of Barbary apes live in freedom and can be watched by tourists at close range. You can often even shoot photos with them. In addition to the monkeys, the view from this rock is terrific. You can reach this place on foot or by cable car.
