The most beautiful sights in Koper
Praetorian Palace
The Praetorian Palace is located about five minutes walk from the harbor on Tito Square in the middle of the old town. The current structure dates back to the mid-15th century, when semicircular Renaissance windows were built into the main facade and the upper part of the palace was enlarged. Today, the palace houses the city administration and a wedding hall. Nearby is also the Assumption Cathedral, from where you have a great view over the city to the sea.
Ljubljana
The capital of Slovenia is 62 miles from Koper which is perfect for a shore excursion: the city offers countless sights such as Prešeren Square, the main square in Ljubljana. There is also the Prešeren monument, which represents the Slovenian poet Prešeren. Or you can visit the Museum of Illusions with 40 illusion rooms where you can test your perception. Stroll through the baroque old town with its many shops and restaurants or relax in the Tivoli Park and enjoy nature.
Caves of Postojna and Predjama Castle
The largest cave in Europe consists of a 13-miles-long cave system and is one of the most popular attractions in Slovenia. After a ride on the cave train, you can explore the unique caves on foot and if you are lucky you can marvel at the olm the most famous inhabitant.
Only 5.6 miles further is the castle Predjama, which is known as the world’s largest cave castle as mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records. Since the castle is connected to the rock walls and man-made walls, some rooms have both natural rock walls. In the high season a free shuttle is available to take you from the Postojna Caves to the castle.
Lake Bled
Lake Bled is located in the Julian Alps it is definitely worth a visit: on the 3.7 mile loop around the lake, you can admire the nature at various viewpoints with breathtaking views or explore the lake by boat. On warm days you can refresh yourself in the lake and even swim to Slovenia’s only island, home to the Church of the Assumption.
Map of the cruise port in Koper
The cruise terminal of Koper is located directly at the mooring and is only a few hundred meters from the old town. The terminal is still under construction, but is absolutely sufficient in terms of capacity to cope with the comparatively low flow of visitors. In 2015, 57,893 passengers visited Koper to explore the city and visit inland attractions.
