The most beautiful sights in Molde
Molde
Molde is located in the west of Norway, on the north bank of the Moldefjord. With approximately 26,000 inhabitants Molde is the commercial and administrative center of the province Møre og Romsdal. It is known for its numerous green parks and public gardens. Due to the relatively mild climate in Molde many plants, such as chestnut, ash, linden, maple, beech, and roses are able to grow. Molde is known for the many beautiful rose gardens in town also often referred to as “the city of roses”. This rather unusual vegetation is located on a spur of the Gulf Stream in conjunction with the location on the fjord. The many well-kept gardens and the magnificent mountains contribute to the relaxed atmosphere of the city. Even a walk through the flowery city is worthwhile.
Things that are worth seeing in Molde include the world-famous Atlantic Road, the exciting Romsdals museum and the fascinating viewpoint on the mountain Varden. Additionally, the city centre of Molde itself invites you for a leisurely stroll.
Atlantic road
On the Atlantic Road you will experience an unforgettable road trip. The fascinating Atlantic Road includes eight bridges, the 23-meter-high bridge and the other bridges provide an exciting contrast to the pristine nature. The Atlantic Road meanders in a zigzag pattern over the islands. The British newspaper “The Guardian”, has described the road as the most scenic drive in the world. The street received the title “Norwegian construction of the century”.
Romsdal
Built in 1912, the Romsdals museum is one of the largest folk museums in Norway. The museum is just a 10-minute walk from the centre of Molde. It displays buildings and facilities from all over the region, as well as pre-war townhouses. In addition, the museum has a library and shows how the city of Molde looked before the Second World War. It is located in a beautiful park with cosy benches and flower gardens.
Varden
The vantage point on Mount Varden is a 10-minute drive or a one-hour walk from the center of Molde, at an altitude of 407 meters. From there you can admire the panoramic views of Molde and the Romsdalsfjord with 222 partly snow-capped peaks. At the viewpoint is a restaurant where you can recharge yourself after the short hike.
