Tour descriptions

Your local tour guide will pick you up right at the pier of your cruise ships and welcome you on your shore excursion in St. Petersburg.

This English-speaking guided tour is ideal to get to know the lifestyle of the city and particularly, its historical center as well as all important sights.

You will go pass the Nevsky Prospect, the main street of the city, and see many more historical buildings: the Anichkov, Stroganov and Beloselsky-Belozersky Palaces; the Lutheran, Catholic and Armenian churches; the Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, and the Eliseev, Singer, and Mertens buildings.

We will cross the Fontanka, the river that once formed the city boundary together with the Moika and the Griboyedov canal. World-renowned Church of the Savior on Blood (unofficial name: Blood Church), which was built in the typical Russian style with colorful or golden onion domes, stands on the banks of the Griboyedov canal. The interior of the church is breathtakingly beautiful: more than 7,500 square meters (1,85 arces) of mosaics. This cannot be found in any other churches in the world.

The former Winter Palace was once the residence of the Tsars, today it houses the Hermitage Museum and dominates the northern bank of the Neva River, while on the other side of the river, the silhouette of Peter-Paul Fortress dominates the skyline with its spires. You will look at this imposing fortress and various famous graves more closely.

You will stop at the legendary Russian cruiser Aurora, which initiated the Russian Revolution. After that, with some luck, you will see the Cabin of Peter the Great – it was this modest residence, from which he personally supervised the construction work in „his“ city from 1703 to 1708. On the Vasilyevsky Island you can see the Strelka (east tip), the Menchikov Palace and a historical building, which is part of the State University. You will see the Admiralty (shipyard) with its imposing gilded dome – a symbol of the Russian navy, with whose help Peter the Great wanted to build his empire on. His equestrian statue was erected in front of the Senate building and St. Isaac’s Cathedral with its impressive pillars of red Finnish granite. You will also visit St. Petersburg’s Conservatory and Mariinsky Theatre on Theatre Square. The tour ends with a visit to the St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral. With a little luck, you‘ll have the opportunity to attend an Orthodox Mass.

Together with your tour guide you will be taken back to your cruise ship.

If you book this excursion on Wednesday, the Blood Church is unfortunately not open and can only be viewed from outside.

Your entry permit to Russia and admissions to all the above-mentioned attractions are all included in your shore excursion in St. Petersburg!
