Formerly an industrial district and made famous by the Kowloon Walled City, an extremely densely populated house block with a rectangular floor plan, Kowloon City is now a popular area with a variety of Asian restaurants and colorful markets. The tip of the Kowloon Peninsula also offers fantastic views across the harbor to Hong Kong’s incomparable skyline.
Together with your tour guide you will be brought to the nunnery Chi Lin. The monastery includes a large temple complex with elegant wooden architecture, precious Buddhist relics and soothing lotus ponds. As you walk along the beautiful circular path, you can admire the picturesque Nan Lian Garden, a green oasis with a multitude of ponds, bridges and pagodas. Each element is designed according to specific rules and methods.
An explosion of colors awaits you at the flower and bird market. There you will find a colorful jungle of exotic flowers, bonsai trees, potted plants that is believed to bring luck and scents of flowers. The adjoining bird market is just as beautiful. You can listen to thousands of colorful singing birds in handmade bamboo cages.
The last stop on your trip will be a visit to the Jade Market in Yua Ma Tei. Jade is associated with a long and healthy life in Chinese culture. If you want to make sure to choose the perfect jewelry you should definitely seek advice at one of the many stalls. Depending on the year you were born, another specific animal, carved from jade, will be your lucky charm. You also have the opportunity to see and buy a variety of magnificent jade stones.
After the tour you will be taken back to the ship. Meanwhile, you have plenty of time to recall your experiences today.
