Make yourself comfortable and enjoy the drive through the streets of Oslo. Along the way you will, for example, pass the imposing and historical Akershus Fortress which is one of the national landmarks. Some parts of it are even still used by the military today. In the city center you will see the old market square Stortorget as well as the Oslo Cathedral from the 17th century. Then you will continue to the Royal Palace which was built in the second half of the 19th century as the Norwegian residence of the King of Sweden and Norway. After Norway became completely independent in 1905, the palace became the permanent residence of the Norwegian king. After 1991, this palace was extensively renovated. You will stop here and walk through the palace garden. If you are lucky, you may have the chance to see the traditional ceremonial change of guards in front of the palace.
Afterwards, you will explore the main road in Oslo, Karl Johans Gate, by foot. On your left and right you can take a look at impressive buildings. You will also pass the National Theatre in which the works of well-known dramatist Ibsen are performed. Your walk will finally lead you to the famous City Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually.
In order to get to your next destination, you reboard your coach which takes you to Oslo’s largest park, Frogner Park. Together with your guide you walk to the Vigeland Sculpture Park, located in the middle of the park. With more than 200 sculptures made of bronze, granite and wrought iron it displays the lifework of renowned sculptor Gustaf Vigeland. It is indeed one of the city’s most visited attractions. Marvel at the numerous sculptures which represent human relationships and the circle of live.
After all these impressions, you board your coach again to drive back to the city center. On your way you make a stop at the magnificent Opera House. Due to its unique architecture the modern building is undoubtedly one of the city’s most famous landmarks. Moreover, its beautiful location on the Oslo Fjord will captivate you!
Afterwards, you will be taken back to your cruise ship. Alternatively, you have the opportunity to continue your exploration in Oslo on your own and later return to the ship independently.
