Your tour guide will wait for you at the agreed meeting point and will welcome you on your shore excursion today at Oslo.
You will start our excursion today with a drive on the most famous road in Oslo, Karl Johans Gate that leads from the main station to the Royal Palace. Along the street you can take a look at many of the city’s most famous buildings and monuments. You will pass the Ibsen Museum, which is dedicated to the well-known Norwegian poet and Henrik Ibsen.
Then you will continue to the Royal Palace which was built in the second half of the 19th century as the Norwegian residence of the King of Sweden and Norway. After Norway became completely independent in 1905, the palace became the permanent residence of the Norwegian king. After 1991, this palace was extensively renovated. You will stop here and walk through the palace garden. If you are lucky enough, you may have the chance to see the traditional ceremonial change of guards in front of the palace. Our next destination is Aker Brygge, a former industrial and shipyard area, now a bustling neighborhood near the city’s piers. You can admire the picturesque boat harbor of Oslo here. The next stop is the Town Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded annually, as well as the magnificent Opera House, undoubtedly the city’s most famous landmark. It was completed in 2008 and is located directly on the Oslo Fjord.
You will continue to the historical center of the city, known as “Kvadraturen”, where you can admire well-preserved buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, including the old Town Hall. You will pay a visit to Oslo’s largest park, Frogner Park. Vigeland Sculpture Park, one of the city’s most visited attractions, is at the center of Frogner Park. The famous sculpture of Gustaf Vigeland is also located here.
At the end of our city tour, you have the opportunity to continue your exploration in Oslo on your own and later return to the ship independently.
