Detailed tour description
Your local guide will welcome you near your cruise ship and take you on a trip to Mormugao.
Goa is a major tourist hotspot in India for its versatility: beautiful beaches, culture and architecture combined with overwhelming biodiversity of exotic plants and animals. That makes Goa a unique destination. Already on the one-hour scenic drive to Old Goa, your tour guide will provide you with details about the history, tradition and culture of the region. On the way, you will also pass the beautiful Shri Manguesh Temple dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Shiva. You will also drive to the church-like Shantadurga Temple, which reveres the goddess of peace. The main attraction of the temple is the golden “Palki“, on which the god figure is worn on festive occasions. Both temples impressively reflect the typical Portuguese-Indian architecture.
Once in Old Goa, you will continue on the trail of Portuguese-Indian history. On your city tour, you will pass many historical sites, such as the Sé Cathedral, which is the largest building in the city of Old Goa. The highlight is the visit to the Basilica do Bom Jesus, which is one of the oldest churches in Goa and all of India. The Portuguese-built basilica has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.
To get to know more of the tradition and culture of India, this excursion continues to a local market in Panjim where you can immerse yourself in the lives of the locals. Afterwards, you can learn more about the different plants and spices of the country when visiting a traditional spice plantation. During the tour of the plantation, you can learn a lot about the variety and the use of Indian spices. Not only will you visit the amazing gardens, but in the midst of them, you will enjoy a delicious regional lunch buffet made from the familiar local produce.
Afterwards, you will be driven back to your ship in Mormugao and will be able to take in Goa again during the return journey.
We wish you a varied trip in Goa!
