The most beautiful attractions in Rhodes
Rhodes is well-known as a paradise for sun worshipers. Rumour has it that Godfather Zeus promised to give the island of Rhodos to the Sun god Helios when he divided our world. However, Rhodes has more to offer than just beach, sand, sea and sun!
The Acropolis of Líndos
The Acropolis of Líndos is considered one of the most worth-seeing and best preserved historic sites of the eastern Mediterranean. It truly lives up to its literal translation (“high city”): especially in midsummer, the steps that lead up the mountain can be a real challenge.
The climb is tiring but worthwhile though: when you arrive at the top, you will not only be rewarded with a full cross-section of Greek history in the form of countless witnesses of times, but also with a breathtaking view over the island.
The Grand Master’s Palace
Rhodes’ Grand Master’s Palace is considered the landmark of Rhodes (after the even-more-famous colossus does not exist anymore). It served for centuries as a fortress of the Christian Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and as a picket of the Western world under defense against the Ottoman Empire.
The original form of the palace dates back to the 14th century. In the mid-19th century it was badly damaged after a fatal explosion. A reconstruction had taken place and hence, its appearance we see today is not even 100 years old. However, the rebuilding of the Palace hasn’t quite met the expectations of many historians, especially the bulky upper floor.
The Old Town of Rhodes
Apart from the Grand Master’s Palace, the Old Town of Rhodes offers some other magnificent historical sights. Famous examples here are the Knights’s Route of the Order of St. John and the Archaeological Museum with interesting exhibits from various excavations that have taken place in Rhodes over the decades.
Of course, this Old Town also offers its typical Greek flair that visitors truly love: small enchanted alleys, secluded marketplaces full of cafés and shops with their hospitable local shop owners. This place is perfect for a relaxing stop with a glass of wine and few olives to escape the heat.
Map of the cruise port in Rhodes
The cruise port in Rhodes is only about 5 minutes on foot from the Old Town. As you can see on the map, there are several berths for ships around the central pier, which could also be used for large cruise ships.
You can also get a time plan of ship arrivals in the port of Rhodes in advance.

Travel time
As we already mentioned above, Rhodes is one of the sunniest islands of Greece. Basically the high season lies between July and August with an estimated of 0 rainy days (!) If you love the sun and the warmth, Rhodes is the place for you.
If your vacation plan permits, we also recommend to switch your trip to mid-season like in Spring or Autumn. It would definitely be more relaxing and remarkable if you explore all the attractions of the Eastern Mediteranean in a cooler weather.
